I made it to the second teams home game on Saturday (just about) as they squared up to Island Bay HHH and with no game for the firsts our local Hero Ralph Chenery made a start at centre back for the team. It was great to watch Russel and Ralphie reunited as the centreback pairing for Wainui. I'm sure I even heard a few shouts of 'give the ball to Ralphie' during the game. The two boys with the assistance of Phil and 'Pom' kept the HHH attack quiet all afternoon in cold, wet and muddy conditions on Richard Prouse Park no.3 pitch.
The defensive display was overshadowed by a master class performance from young Joel Evans who banged in a second half hat-trick as the seconds romped home to a three nil victory to keep their hopes of promotion from Division 4 alive.
